Stages of Life

Ayurveda identifies three stages of life where the mind-body is prone to certain tendencies and imbalances but that are ultimately determined by the knowledge and wisdom we have to harmonize our unique dosha.

Below are the dosha-specific stages and their propensity toward imbalance. As part of the Purpose & Performance program, you’ll learn how to balance Life through the different stages by creating inward stability that will also support your goals and aspirations.

Stage One: Kapha Dosha

As a child from birth to 16 years of age, we are naturally attuned to the building blocks of life; we’re learning, exploring, and testing the world around us. We may crave sweet, grounding foods to support our expansive growth. When we are out of balance, we may experience congestion, coughs, runny noses, frequent colds, and excess mucus.

Stage Two: Pitta Dosha

As an adult from 16 to 50 years of age, we are likely forming our identity and developing our unique abilities. We are generally more ambitious, and goal-oriented, and our intense drive for accomplishment can override our overall well-being. We are more prone to imbalances such as acid reflux, heartburn, ulcers, skin irritations, and loose stool.

Stage Three: Vata Dosha

As an elder from 50 years of age to the end of life, we may be called to expand our spiritual connection. We could have more wisdom to share with others and it can be a great time of creativity and reflection. If we are out of balance, we can become less resilient and more prone to constipation, insomnia, muscle aches, and cracking or pain in the bones and joints.
